FilmCraft: The Open-Source Premiere Alternative in the ArtCraft Suite
Updated 2026-10-11
FilmCraft is the video editing app in the ArtCraft suite - the open-source answer to Adobe Premiere Pro. It provides the multitrack timeline editing workflow editors know, and it is the natural finishing tool for clips generated in the ArtCraft AI studio.
What it replaces
FilmCraft reproduces the Premiere editing model: source/record monitors, a multitrack timeline, ripple and roll edits, transitions, titles and color tools. If you can cut in Premiere (or Resolve, or Final Cut), the layout is immediately legible.
What it does today
- Multitrack timeline editing with standard trim tools.
- Transitions, titles and basic color correction.
- Direct pipeline from the AI studio - generated clips land in your bin.
- Export to standard formats for delivery.
- Scriptable/automatable via the suite's control channel.
Where it is rough
- No deep color-grading page - grading is basic compared to Resolve.
- Limited codec/container support versus mature NLEs.
- Audio mixing is functional but not a DAW replacement.
- Collaborative/proxy workflows are not there yet.
Who it suits now
Creators assembling AI-generated clips into sequences, simple YouTube/social edits, and anyone allergic to subscription pricing. Heavy post-production pipelines should stay on mature NLEs for now.
