ArtCraft Web Studio vs Desktop Apps: Which Should You Use?
Updated 2026-10-11
ArtCraft gives you two front doors: the browser studio at app.getartcraft.com and the native desktop suite. They are not equal - here is when each is the right call.
Use the web studio when
- You want a quick generation - an image, a clip, a background removal - without installing anything.
- You are on a locked-down machine (work laptop, Chromebook) where installs are not possible.
- You are evaluating ArtCraft and want the fastest possible look.
- You work across machines and want the same workspace everywhere.
Use the desktop apps when
- You do regular creative work - the Craft apps (PhotoCraft, FilmCraft etc.) are desktop-native software for real projects.
- Your files are large or sensitive - desktop keeps everything local.
- You need the full composition pipeline: 3D scene blocking, the deepest canvas tools.
- You want offline capability and native performance.
- You are scripting workflows - the CLI/JSON/MCP surface is a desktop story.
The practical difference for AI generation
The browser studio covers the generation workflow end to end - prompt, canvas, scene, render. What desktop adds is the ecosystem around it: the Craft apps for pre- and post-processing (develop the RAW in LightCraft, composite in PhotoCraft, cut the sequence in FilmCraft), local file management and scriptability. If generation is the whole job, the browser is enough; if generation is one stage of a pipeline, desktop earns its install.
And if you want neither?
If your need is narrower - "generate an image," "make a clip," "remove a background," "turn this image into a 3D mesh" - a focused web tool beats a suite. Our tools do exactly those five jobs with no install and a free first try.
