ArtCraft Getting Started: First Launch to First Render

Updated 2026-10-11

ArtCraft offers two ways in: the browser studio, which needs no install, and desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. This guide gets you from zero to a first finished generation either way, and flags the setup choices that matter.

Pick your entry point

The browser studio (app.getartcraft.com) is the fastest start: open it, sign in, and you can create images and video with no install. It is the right choice for a first look, quick generations, and machines where you cannot install software.

The desktop apps are for regular use: native performance, local files, the full Craft app family, and the deeper composition tools. Installers are on the official download page and on GitHub releases; you can also build from source since everything is open.

Which should you choose?

  • Just curious / one-off generation → browser studio.
  • Regular creative work, large files, privacy-sensitive material → desktop.
  • Evaluating the suite for a team → start in browser, then install the desktop IDE.

Install the desktop suite

Note: builds are new and fast-moving. If an installer is unsigned on your platform, your OS may warn on first launch - that is normal for a young open-source project, and the source is public if you want to audit it.

  • Download the ArtCraft Launcher or the single app you want from the official download page (getartcraft.com/download).
  • Run the installer for your platform - macOS, Windows and Linux builds are published on GitHub releases.
  • Open the app; the launcher keeps every Craft app up to date from one place.
  • Advanced users can build from source with the Rust toolchain - instructions are in the repository README.

Understand accounts, credits and model keys

The ArtCraft applications themselves are free. Generating content, however, requires compute: depending on the model you either spend platform credits or connect your own provider keys. The suite is deliberately un-opinionated - it exposes a catalog of models across providers rather than locking you into one.

Before your first render, decide which models you want. Video models like Seedance, Kling, Sora and Veo and image models like Nano Banana and GPT Image each have their own costs and strengths - our model guides break them down.

Make your first image

For video, the flow is similar but adds duration, aspect ratio and - uniquely to ArtCraft - scene blocking: you can stage objects and camera position in 3D first so the model renders the shot you actually framed instead of whatever it invents.

  • Open the studio (browser) or launch ArtCraft on desktop.
  • Start with text-to-image: write a clear, short prompt - subject, action, lighting, lens or style.
  • Generate, review the result, then iterate: adjust the prompt, drop a reference image, or mask and re-render a region.
  • Export the finished image from the canvas.

If you just want results in a browser

Not everyone needs the suite. If your goal is simply "make an AI image, clip, transparent PNG or 3D mesh in the browser," our tools do exactly that with no install and no setup - a small free credit grant gets you a first result, and failed renders refund automatically.

Common questions

Do I need to install anything to try ArtCraft?
No - the browser studio runs the AI features with no install. The Craft desktop apps need installation for their full offline workflow.
Which platforms does ArtCraft support?
Web (browser studio) plus native desktop builds for macOS, Windows and Linux. Several Craft apps can also compile to WebAssembly.
Do I need my own API keys?
For some models, yes - ArtCraft is model-agnostic and lets you connect provider keys. Simpler paths use platform credits. Check the model pages for what each option costs.
